Members of the Fraternity & Sorority Life community recently enriched their collegiate journeys through immersive winter study abroad programs. These global experiences challenged our members to bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world application:

  • INDS 208: Exploring Peru’s Indigenous Populations
    Students traveled to Cusco to examine the resilience of indigenous cultures after 500 years of post-colonial history. The itinerary balanced academic rigor with cultural immersion, including NGO volunteer work, homestays with local families, and an exploration of the ancient ruins of Machu Picchu.

  • GEOL 150: Geologic Evolution of the Hawaiian Islands
    Members gained a firsthand perspective on the natural forces defining our world. By studying volcanic, geomorphic, and coastal processes across the islands, they witnessed the ongoing evolution of the Hawaiian landscape.

  • INDS 218: The World Runs on Processes
    Students analyzed how global systems are built through the lenses of engineering, economics, and culture. Through site visits to technical companies and cultural landmarks, they were able to apply an entrepreneurial mindset to develop innovative, sustainable solutions for complex real-world workflows.

  • INDS 174: Global Senegal: Alternative Modernities
    Members examined the challenges facing African youth, including unemployment and educational access, against the backdrop of Senegal’s world-renowned arts scene and intellectual history. By engaging with local historians and artists, our students are able to challenge Western concepts of “authenticity” and “modernity” in a post-colonial context.

  • INDS 141: The Spirit of Water: Cultural and Enviornmental Perspectives in Japan
    Students investigated Japan’s relationship with water through its environmental challenges, economic policies, and spiritual traditions. Through immersive cultural activities and lectures, members were able to gain a holistic view of how this single element shapes a nation’s identity.
