“Aspire to Be”

Kappa_crestFriday evening, the Kappa Kappa Gamma Zeta Beta chapter had three members set forth on a trip to the Double Tree Hilton in Somerset, NJ for a three day Province meeting.  The weekend was kicked off with the donation of a number of children’s novels to the Kappa Kappa Gamma Philanthropy program Reading is Fundamental by active members and alumni.  The three of us had the chance to mingle with women in leadership positions from chapters all around New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  The evening concluded with a shirt swap and welcoming speeches from the host chapter from Princeton University.

Saturday began bright and early.  Six more members from the Zeta Beta chapter joined the group of three for the opening business meeting.  The women of Zeta Beta and other chapters in attendance spent the day listening to helpful speakers about ritual, leadership, delegation and hazing.  A number of the speakers had the young women take part in hands-on activities that allowed the sharing of interesting ideas amongst the Kappa chapters.  Many of the Kappas in attendance would agree that one of the best parts of the weekend was meeting wKKG_Beta_PM_2013Provinceomen from other chapters in the area.

Saturday night, five more members arrived for the candlelight banquet dinner.  The dinner takes place in order to honor Kappa chapters and alumni for various reasons including scholarship and philanthropy.  The Zeta Beta chapter won an award for the hard work of our advisory board.  It was great to see all of their time and effort pay off!  The candlelight banquet was also an excellent opportunity for the women of Zeta Beta to finally meet the advisers whom they had only previously spoken to over emails.

Sunday morning only involved a small number of workshops and a closing meeting.  Overall, each of the women involved had an extremely positive experience.  It was an incredible learning opportunity and way for the members to see that being part of Kappa is more than just the college experience, but rather a bond that holds women together for a lifetime.
